Follow up

After your interview, it is very important to follow up with a prospective employer. Here are some simple things to keep in mind for your post interview follow-up:

Follow-Up Letters

Just like cover letters, follow-up letters emphasize your interest in the job as well as highlighting your strengths and transferable skills.

  • Always send a thank you letter within one day of the interview.

  • Provide information that may have been requested including references, a completed formal application, and/or samples of your work.

Follow-Up Emails

Sometimes, busy HR managers may prefer contact by email. When drafting a follow-up email, follow the same format and procedure as you would for writing and sending a follow-up letter emphasizing your interest and strengths.

Follow-Up Calls

  • Call to express your interest a few days after you send the letter.

  • Be persistent, but not a pest. Interviewers are impressed by eagerness, but not by repetitive phone calls. Try asking when they expect to make a decision and if there is any other information you can provide in the mean time.
